Bomb Threat - Physical Security
As part of your company Physical
Security Plan, you must address building design and access points.
Security Against Bomb Incidents
1. Parking Areas: Keep "visitor" parking at a far
distance from buildings...only properly identifies employee vehicles
should be allowed within 300 feet. For facilities that cannot
keep vehicles 300 feet away, post obvious sings that the area is under
video surveillance and install cameras or on the roof or sides of
buildings so they are easily seen.
2. Landscaping: All foliage should be kept low and away from
direct contact with building s to eliminate these areas as an easy
place to hide a bomb.
3. Security guards are most effective when they and their
cars are seen.
4. Burglar alarms should be installed with highly visible
signs
5. Modify any door that has hinge pins on the outside ... it
is very easy to remove the pins and allow unauthorized access to
building interiors.
6. Look for areas where a package could be easily hidden and
either modify os secure the area.
7. Implement identification controls for those authorized for
entry.
8. Inspect all packages that enter your facility.
9. Train all security, maintenance and supervisors how to
identify and report people who are suspicious. Also conduct
training on recognizing "out of place" materials.
10. Implement controlled access to utility areas, data
processing and other control rooms. Use a key entry
accountability system.
11. Ensure dumpsters and other receptacles are not placed
near the exterior of buildings
12. Install a camera system that monitors all access points.
Be sure cameras are highly visible and post signs that say the area is
under video surveillance.
13. Provide one access point for all visitors that is
monitored and controlled by a receptionist. Do not allow
un-escorted visitors access beyond the reception area.
